P.E. Showcase - Summer 24

What a fantastic way to end the academic year!

Across the summer term pupils and staff have had the opportunity to try different sporting activities, learn about sporting heroes or sporting events, represent their house group and/or school and most importantly being healthy, active and having fun!

Please have a look below at some of the exciting activities that were on offer this term.

Active Day

To kickstart the P.E. showcase, the whole school came dressed in their sporting clothes ready to take part in Active Day. All classes took part in a yoga session and challenged themselves to see how many laps of the playground or field they could run in a certain timescale. Despite the poor weather, the children showed great determination and gave lots of support to their fellow classmates.

Bootcamp

All classes were put through their paces with a bootcamp fitness session.  Great fun was had by all!

Berry Hill Mini Marathon

In April, children learnt about the London Marathon in their class assemblies. Then the whole school took part in our first ‘Berry Hill Mini Marathon’. Some of the KS2 classes went out to support the KS1 classes when they were running their marathon. Children realised just how important supporters are when competing in a sporting activity.

Class Warmup

Children were invited to lead the warmup in their class P.E. sessions. Warm ups are vital when taking part in sporting activities to get the blood flowing, helping to deliver oxygen to our muscles and to reduce the chance of injury.

Rugby Week

The Rugby Cup Final was held this week so to celebrate each class had a rugby session led by Charlie from ProStars. Oak Class were lucky to have a presentation from a former professional rugby player from Gloucester and the England Squad and were given the chance to ask questions.

Sporting Hero Day

The whole school as a riot of colour on Wednesday as children were invited to dress up as their favourite sporting hero. There were many footballers, rugby players, a few gymnasts and even ballet dancers!

Olympic Day

To celebrate the upcoming Olympics in Paris this summer, the whole school took part in an Olympic Day led by ProStars. Each class took part in an opening ceremony where children danced along the River Seine. Then they took part in Fencing at the Grand Palais, Archery at Esplanade des Invalides, Boxing Fitness at the Arena Paris Nord and Athletics at the Stade De France. So many children said that they wanted to take up Boxing after this session!

In addition to having the experience to take part in potentially new sports, all classes learnt about various Olympians and Para Olympians from Tom Daley and Adam Peaty to Nicole Adams, Tanni Grey-Thompson and Ellie Simmonds. Oak Class did further research on these Olympians and have produced their own powerpoints. Please have a look at their fantastic work!

Sports Day

Sports Day 2024 was such a wonderful day. The children showed great sportsmanship, enthusiasm and teamwork. It was lovely to hear children supporting their friends and offering such warm words of encouragement and see the pride on children’s faces as they participated in various races. The weather was warm and sunny and it was lovely seeing everyone sharing picnics on the school field afterwards.

Tennis Week

In July, Wimbledon takes place so to honour this great sporting eventing, the children learnt about Wimbledon in their class assemblies and then took part in tennis sessions led by Charlie.

Golf Week

Another big sporting event that takes place in July is the Open Golf Championships so we decided to give children the chance to take part in a golf session instead of one of their P.E. sessions. The children had great fun though some found the playground bumps rather tricky to overcome!

Afternoon of Sport with Ellwood Primary School

As a fantastic finale to our Summer Showcase, KS2 took part in tag rugby, hockey, netball and rounders matches against pupils from Ellwood school. It was lovely that all children in Years 4, 5, and 6 had a chance to represent their school in a competitive sporting event. Reception, Year 1, 2 and Year 3 all came out at some point in the afternoon to support the players, some children even made banners for the occasion!
