Science at Berry Hill

Our children live in an ever-changing modern world, and as such, we ensure our curriculum evolves and keeps us up to date with the changes. The Science in the National Curriculum expectations split teacing and learning of science into topics to give the children a broad and balanced knowledge and skillset.

The National Curriculum for science aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop scientific knowledge amd conceptual understandng through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
  • develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientiic questions about the world aroud them.
  • are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

Therefore, children muct recognise the difference between what makes each strand relevantto their future and everyday lives. Our high-quality teaching of science, from Pre-School through to Year 6, utilises a combination of practical lessons and theory lessons designed to promote discussion and nurture understanding, which is also relevant to other curriculum area such as Life Skills.

At Berry Hill, we use White Rose Science to support us with our teaching and learning of Science.

We use the National Curriculum to guide our teaching and Learning across the school.
