Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to accessibility
At Berry Hill Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive, welcoming and accessible environment for all pupils, parents, carers, staff and visitors.
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to access our school, participate in school life and feel valued as part of our school community, regardless of disability or additional needs.
We aim to identify and remove barriers to accessibility wherever reasonably possible and make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals are not disadvantaged when accessing our premises, facilities, services or activities.
Access to our school buildings and grounds
We recognise that accessibility includes the ability to enter, move around and use our school buildings and outdoor spaces safely and comfortably.
We consider the needs of people with a range of disabilities and access requirements, including those with:
- Physical disabilities or mobility difficulties.
- Visual or hearing impairments.
- Neurodiverse conditions and sensory needs.
- Medical conditions or other additional needs.
We aim to make appropriate arrangements to support access to classrooms, shared areas, outdoor learning spaces and other school facilities.
Where physical barriers exist, we will consider reasonable adjustments and alternative arrangements to support access and participation.
Supporting pupils with additional needs
We are committed to ensuring that pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) can access the curriculum and take part in all aspects of school life as fully as possible.
We work in partnership with pupils, parents and carers, staff and external professionals to identify individual needs and put appropriate support in place.
This may include:
- Adapting the learning environment.
- Providing additional adult support.
- Modifying learning materials and resources.
- Making adjustments to classroom activities and teaching approaches.
- Providing appropriate access arrangements for assessments.
- Supporting participation in school trips, visits and extracurricular activities.
Individual support arrangements are reviewed regularly to ensure they continue to meet pupils' needs.
Parents, carers and visitors
We want all parents, carers and visitors to feel welcome at Berry Hill Primary School.
If you have a disability or particular access requirements, please contact the school office before visiting so that we can discuss your needs and make appropriate arrangements wherever possible.
We will always aim to find a practical solution to help you access the school and take part in meetings, events and other activities.
Emergency arrangements
The safety of everyone on our school premises is extremely important.
Where an individual may require additional assistance in an emergency, we will consider their needs and put appropriate arrangements in place. This may include an individual Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP), where necessary.
Ongoing accessibility improvements
Accessibility is an ongoing priority for the school. We regularly consider how we can improve our buildings, facilities and provision to ensure that everyone can participate as fully as possible.
Our Accessibility Plan sets out the school's objectives and actions for improving access to:
- The physical school environment.
- The curriculum and learning opportunities.
- Information and communication for pupils with disabilities.
We will continue to review our arrangements, respond to feedback and consider accessibility when planning improvements to our school premises and facilities.
