Mental Health and Wellbeing
Here at Berry Hill we believe passionately in the value of children learning how to support positive mental health. We want them to understand that times can be challenging in all our lives, but that we can do something about it! Our proactive approach has led to us achieving our Mental Health Champions Award, of which we are very proud!
Support for wellbeing and positive mental health education is woven throughout our provision - through the Curriculum, in assemblies, special events (such as World Mental Health Day), and we also hold workshops for families. Below are just some of the ways that we help our children to understand more about wellbeing and mental health.
The recent Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in heightened concern about mental health for many. The NHS has developed the following site to advise parents and families on supporting their children's mental health. Check it out for some excellent information and guidance:

Our Positive Mental Health framework at Berry Hill Primary School:
5 WAYS TO WELLBEING:
This excellent initiative is used as a framework to help children understand that there are ways they can help themselves live a happy and healthy life.
The '5 Ways to Wellbeing' are a framework used during assemblies, at playtimes and in classrooms to help children identify ways that they can stay healthy and happy in body and in mind. The 5 ways are:
- Connect
- Give
- Take Notice
- Be Active
- Keep Learning
ELSA (Emotional Literacy) support in school: Specially trained staff can support children with a range of social and emotional needs over a short-term programme. See ELSA page on the School Life tab for more information.
